‘Tis the season to be warm and cozy inside. Even here in San Jose, CA, we feel the cold throughout the winter season. If your furnace is running smoothly, you can “cheers” to chilly weather! If not, however, Pelle Heating & Air Conditioning is just around the corner, ready to help!

Of course, if you find yourself shivering indoors no matter which temperature you have set on your thermostat—call our team! However, before your furnace “kicks the bucket,” pay attention to these 6 signs that your furnace may be on the fritz:

Sign #1: you have a 15-year-old

Furnace, that is. If your furnace is older than 15 years, you are likely paying more money to get less heat from it on a monthly basis than you should.

Sign #2: increased heating bill

Does it seem like you are paying more and more for your heating bill? Compare to last year and the year before—if your payment has increased dramatically, there is likely an issue with your furnace. In fact, a rising bill is often a warning your furnace is “on its way out.” Before it does die and leave you shivering, call our team to come inspect it.

Sign #3: ultra-needy

Furnaces tend to require the most attention in the last couple years of their “lives” (much like vehicles). Are you finding that you keep shelling out money to repair your furnace? If so, it may be time to give us a call. Together, we can decide whether continuous repairs or a replacement is more worth your time and money.

Sign #4: miscommunication

One of the most common issues people have with their furnaces is a simple miscommunication between the furnace and its thermostat. This issue is fairly easy to diagnose on your own: do you have your thermostat set to a balmy temperature but find yourself still needing layers and blankets? If so, you likely have a thermostat problem—and we can fix this in no time.

Sign #5: irritating noises

You should not hear banging, popping, rattling, screeching, squealing or any other strange sounds. Further, you should not hear your furnace firing on and off frequently—you will know when this happens; it will be obvious.

Sign #6: you’ve got that sickly feeling

This is an important one. Low-level carbon monoxide exposure can cause your family persistent headaches, nausea, dizziness and other flu-like symptoms due to tiny cracks which sometimes occur in an aging furnace. These cracks allow this toxic gas into your home. If you suspect this issue is causing any of these symptoms—OPEN YOUR WINDOWS and exit everyone from your home. After you have called the fire department or gas company to shut off your gas, please call our team here at Pelle for service immediately, so we can either repair or replace your furnace.

Our team at Pelle Heating & Air Conditioning wants to help you keep cozy this winter. Are you experiencing one of more of these signs from your furnace? If so, call us to schedule a San Jose Furnace service and inspection from one of our qualified service technicians.
